Dental Implants

Scaling and Root Planing

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, etc.
A non-surgical procedure where our hygienist removes plaque and calculus from the periodontal pocket and around the tooth root and smooths the root surfaces to promote healing.

Soft Tissue Biopsy

Extractions

A soft-tissue biopsy is the removal and microscopic examination of a small sample of soft tissue for diagnostic purposes.
An Extraction is the removal of teeth from the bone. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most commonly to remove teeth which have become un-restorable by decay, periodontal disease, or dental trauma.

Frenectomy

Bone Grafting

A frenectomy is the removal of a frenulum, a small fold of tissue most commonly found on the upper or lower lip, or under the tongue.
Deformities of the jaws can leave you with inadequate bone in which to place a dental implant. This defect may have been caused by periodontal disease, dental trauma or developmental defects.

To correct the problem, the gum is lifted away from the ridge and the defect is then filled with bone or bone substitute to build up the ridge. Dr. Butler can tell you about your options for graft materials.

Periodontal Maintenance Therapy

Periodontal maintenance is a series of treatments used to remove plaque and calculus from the teeth and gums on a routine basis. This is completed routinely after scaling and root planning and is most commonly every 3 to 4 months.

Crown Lengthening

Sinus Augmentation

During the dental crown lengthening procedure, excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth, to even your gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile.
Sinus lift surgery is completed by raising the sinus floor and grafting of bone for the placement of dental implants

Gingival Grafting

Exposure of Impacted Teeth

Gum grafts can be used to cover roots or develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession. During gum graft surgery, Dr. Butler takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root. This can be done for one tooth or several teeth to even your gum line.
Impaction refers to teeth that are stuck beneath the gums. It most often occurs in canines. We most commonly address impacted canines with exposure and bonding a bracket to the tooth.

Gingivectomy

Periodontal Osseous Surgery

Gingivectomy is a dental procedure in which Dr. Butler removes part of the gums in the mouth in order to make your teeth more visible and more cleansible.
During this procedure, Dr. Butler surgically exposes the teeth to remove the disease-causing bacteria. If the underlying bone has been damaged, the irregular surface will be smoothed out to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria can hide. This will also allow your gum tissue to reattach to healthy bone more effectively.
